Solutions of the thermal boundary layer equations are obtained for a model problem in which the flow field contains a substantial region of strongly reversed flow. Analytical properties of the solution are discussed and a numerical method is devised which takes proper account of upstream influence in the parabolic system. Application of the method to a wider class of thermal boundary layer problems is also discussed.
