NAWC CHINALAKE FLIR PRESENTATION

S-BAND HIGH RESOLUTION RADAR

(By Howard McCauley, Advanced Systems Development Section, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division.)
These images are publicly released by NAWCWPNS, China Lake, CA. Their distribution is unlimited. Each image has a distribution statement "stamped" on it. This is always a problem when using the images for image processing, but is a requirement for their distribution. Please leave the distribution statement on the image when distributing the image.

These images were put together in order to demonstrate several well known problems with using infrared sensors in uncontrolled environments. These problems include water reflections, "hot wakes," and "hot horizons" in the open ocean environments; port clutter in port facility environments; obscurations, high IR clutter, low contrast and various thermal loading problems in the land target environment; variations in thermal scene due to time of day, urban clutter, and bridges in high value land target environments.
